So I have a family reunion in two weeks and I'm the one taking the photos and honestly I'm stressing out. I need a remote shutter for my Canon Rebel T7 so I can actually be in the group shots. I'm looking at the Canon RS-60E3 wired one vs a cheap Neewer wireless remote off Amazon. My budget is basically capped at 30 bucks. I'm worried the wired one will be too short to hide but I heard the T7 is picky with wireless stuff. Which one is gonna be more reliable for a one-time big event? I really don't want to mess this up...
I've used both. The Canon RS-60E3 Remote Switch is bulletproof but the cord is annoying. I used a Viltrox JY-120 2.4GHz Wireless Remote last Christmas and it worked from across the yard.
Saw this thread and figured id share my experience. I was in a similar spot for a event last year and didn't want to spend much. I think I read somewhere that the T7 doesn't even have an infrared receiver? Not totally sure on that, so you might want to double check before buying a cheap wireless one that relies on IR. I personally ended up going with a basic radio frequency set instead of a simple wired remote. Someone told me the cord on the wired ones is almost always too short for family group shots unless you're standing right next to the tripod. The radio thing I used was some off-brand kit that cost me maybe 20 bucks. It was basically a little receiver that slides into the hot shoe and plugs into the side. It was a bit finicky to set up but once it clicked, it worked from like 30 feet away through a crowd. Honestly, if you're on a tight budget, those cheap radio triggers are usually a safer bet than infrared for big groups where people might block the signal. Just make sure whatever you get actually comes with the right cable for the T7 port... I think it's a 2.5mm jack but definitely verify that first.
