Are there any good budget tripods for the Canon EOS Rebel T7?

Ive been shooting with my Rebel T7 for a year mostly handheld but I'm trying some long exposures for a trip to Joshua Tree next month. I picked up a cheap tripod and it was a total disaster because the T7 with the kit lens felt way too heavy and the head kept drooping mid-shot. I know the T7 isnt a huge camera but I need something that actually locks down tight for night shots without being a brick in my bag. My budget is strictly under $100.

  • must handle the weight without drifting
  • light enough for hiking

Are there any decent budget tripods that actually work for this setup?

I agree, budget gear is often disappointing tbh. My first head drifted constantly, so I finally got the Vanguard VEO 3GO 204AB Aluminum Travel Tripod because those twist locks stay secure.

Saw this thread and wanted to drop a few more solid options that wont break the bank. For long exposures at Joshua Tree, you really need a ball head that is rated for way more than the T7 actually weighs to stop that creeping issue.

  • K&F Concept 64 inch Aluminum Camera Tripod with 360 Degree Ball Head
  • Neewer 72.5 inch Aluminum Camera Tripod Monopod Comparing these two, the K&F is usually around $75 and is remarkably stable for a budget pick. The metal ball head actually locks down tight compared to the plastic ones that come with ultra-cheap kits. The Neewer is a bit heavier but very versatile since it converts to a monopod. Both use Arca-Swiss style plates which is the industry standard. If you want more technical data, check out the website The Center Column. They do objective stiffness testing which is basically the gold standard for tripod reviews. Just remember to hang your camera bag from the center column hook if it gets windy out there in the desert... it makes a massive difference for sharpness.
