Trying to figure out which remote to grab for my Rebel T7 before a trip to the Peak District next week. I spent some time looking at the Canon BR-E1 but people online are saying it doesnt work with this specific model because of the lack of bluetooth? Or maybe it's the infrared... I'm getting mixed signals. So then I thought okay maybe just get a wired one but I'm worried about the cord being too short or causing vibration in the wind. My logic was that a cheap Neewer or something would do the trick but I've heard the jacks can be loose. I've only got about $30 to spend so I dont want to waste it on junk that breaks immediately.

The T7 is a bit of a weird beast since it lacks both the infrared receiver and the Bluetooth capabilities found in higher-end models. I have seen many people get burned by that. Be very careful when looking at those wireless options because most of them wont work without a separate receiver that plugs into the side.

  • Make sure to check the plug type. You need a 2.5mm sub-mini jack, not the larger 3.5mm or the N3 style.
  • I would suggest avoiding the absolute cheapest options. The soldering inside those cheap jacks is often brittle and they fail right when you are out in the field.
  • Be wary of cable length. A cable that is too short will catch the wind and vibrate your tripod, which ruins the long exposure anyway.
  • Avoid remotes that dont have a locking mechanism for the shutter button for long exposures. Honestly, simplicity is usually better for a trip like this. Just keep an eye on those ports tho.
