Heard anything solid about the EOS R7 Mark II release date? My R7's getting a bit long in the tooth. I'm hoping it's soon! Any rumors pointing to a specific month? Thanks!

Regarding what #5 said about "Can vouch for this" - unfortunately we are likely looking at another year or two before Canon even mentions a Mark II. It is disappointing for those of us who have been with the system since the early days, but thats just how their release cycles go. Summarizing what everyone else mentioned, you basically have three choices: switch to Sony, wait indefinitely, or look at full frame. If youre watching your budget, I definitely wouldnt jump ship to Sony yet. Selling your glass at a loss is never a good financial move. My recommendation would be to look for a deal on a Canon EOS R6 Mark II or even the original Canon EOS R6.

  • Refurbished R6 units are hitting great prices lately
  • Full frame glass is more future-proof
  • The R7 is still okay but the rolling shutter is definitely not as good as expected Honestly, just grab a used R6 and call it a day... waiting for vaporware just leads to frustration.

Been thinking about this for a bit while I was looking over some sensor readout stats. Before I can give any real advice, what exactly is the part of your current setup that feels outdated? Is it the rolling shutter speed or maybe the buffer depth when youre shooting high-speed bursts? I remember when I first started getting really deep into the data side of things, I spent an entire weekend trying to DIY a better heat sink for my gear because I was convinced thermal throttling was killing my frame rates. I ended up running all these tests and realized the bottleneck was actually the way the internal bus handled the data stream from the sensor to the card slot. It taught me that sometimes the hardware isnt actually old, its just about how the software manages the throughput. If you can share whats bugging you most, itd help me figure out if the rumored specs for a Mark II would even make a difference for your workflow.

Forget the R7 Mark II for now! I snagged a used Sony a6700 for $1100 last month and the image quality is AMAZING. Seriously considering selling my R7!

Unfortunately, no R7 Mark II date yet. Honestly, consider the Sony a6700. The R7's IBIS wasn't as good as expected, plus the a6700 is around $1400 right now.

Honestly, save your cash! R7 still rocks. Maybe a used R6 Mark I instead? Better value, similar performance.

No solid R7 Mark II date yet. Honestly, with newer tech, I'd prioritize reliability over chasing the latest release. Remember the early 2000s ABS issues? Improved sensor tech is great, but brake feel and predictability are paramount. I'm happy with my current setup; waiting for proven safety is key. Just my $0.02.
