What lens do I need for shooting basketball inside a gym with my new Canon R3? I'm totally lost because my uncle gave me this camera but I've never used anything this fancy before. The pictures I take right now of my sons games are always blurry and dark and it sucks. I have maybe $1200 or $1500 to spend on a lens but I saw some that cost like ten thousand dollars which is just crazy to me. Is there something that works good in low light but still lets me see the players from the bleachers? The season starts in two weeks so I'm kinda in a rush to figure this out sorry for the dumb question...
Regarding what #1 said about native glass being pricey, I agree. To keep your budget under $1500 and still get enough light for basketball, try these EF mount alternatives:
Unfortunately, native RF glass is overpriced. I had issues with f/4 lenses cuz theyre too dark in gyms.
Regarding what #1 said about native glass being overpriced, I totally get the frustration, but you actually have some killer options if you look at the f/4 lineup. Honestly, since you are rocking an R3, you have a huge advantage! That sensor is a total beast in low light. Most people are scared of f/4 lenses in gyms, but the R3 handles high ISO so well that you can just crank the settings and get amazing, sharp shots without any issues. If you want to stay within that $1500 budget and get something brand new that just works, I really suggest looking at these:
