Hey! Looking for the best vlogging lens for my EOS R8. Shooting mostly car stuff (exterior, interior, driving). Aiming for good image quality, decent stabilization, and something fairly compact. Mileage is low, so mainly focusing on the quality. What would you recommend for around $800?

Coming back to this but i actually have to disagree with the prime lens ideas because after messing with my R8 i found that when u turn on the enhanced stabilization it crops the image like crazy so u basically lose the wide view u paid for! If ur shooting car interiors u really want a zoom so u dont have to keep moving ur tripod or seat around in a cramped space and honestly those heavy EF lenses make the R8 feel really unbalanced since the body is so light and small... I'd recommend looking at these for a better long-term experience: * Canon RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM - its around $500 and the 15mm is wide enough that even with the digital crop u can still see the whole dashboard while driving
* Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM - super light for exterior walkarounds and way cheaper than the L version so u can buy a gimbal too Does the crop factor bother anyone else when vlogging? I just think a zoom is way more helpful for getting different angles of the car without swapping glass constantly and getting the sensor dirty tbh!

^ This. Also, Tristan is totally right about that crop issue. Honestly, I've been dealing with the exact same problem for the last few months and it's driving me crazy. I've tried so many different setups for my car channel, and every time I think I have the interior shots figured out, that digital IS kicks in and ruins the framing. It's like you lose half the cabin view instantly and I still haven't found a lens that works for me. I really want to figure this out with you since I've spent years messing with different rigs, but I need to know one thing first. Are you planning on using the in-camera Enhanced IS for your driving clips, or are you gonna be mounting the Canon EOS R8 on a gimbal? In my experience, that completely changes how wide we actually need to go because of how much that crop eats into the shot.

Dude, I *love* my Canon RF 16mm f/2.8! Super wide for interiors, surprisingly sharp, and tiny. Got mine for around $300 and it's been amazing for my Mustang's vids!

Hey! For super sharp car shots, consider the Sigma 16mm f/1.4. It's amazing for low light! Just be careful with distortion on wider shots, maybe test it first?

Forget breaking the bank! For killer car vids on the R8, check out a used Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM with an adapter. You can snag one for around $400, leaving cash for killer audio. Image quality is fantastic, IS works wonders, and it's versatile. Spend the rest on a Rode mic! Trust me, audio matters just as much, if not more, than the lens!

Consider a stabilized Canon RF 24mm. Safe focus is key; avoid distractions when driving!

Before diving in, check out Sony's vlogging lens market share. It's HUGE. Canon glass is great, but for pure vlogging flexibility, especially with aftermarket accessories, Sony's ecosystem is tough to beat. Their 10-18mm f/4 might be worth comparing, even if it means an adapter. Do your research first, and be careful about resale value down the road.
