Hunting for Canon R8 deals! Anyone know where I can snag one for the cheapest price?

tbh it really depends on how much legwork ur willing to do vs just wanting a box at ur door tomorrow. are you open to refurbished or are you strictly looking for a brand new unit? i’ve been around the block and i’m always a bit cautious about where i spend my cash so here’s how i usually look at it: 1. Canon USA Refurbished Store - This is basically the DIY enthusiast’s goldmine. you have to check the site daily because they sell out fast but you get a full 1-year warranty and it’s usually indistinguishable from new. Pros: huge savings and reliable. Cons: you have to hunt for it yourself and wait for restocks.
2. Canon EOS R8 Body Only (New from Authorized Dealers) - The professional service route. Places like Adorama or B&H. Pros: zero risk, full support, no hunting. Cons: usually the most expensive option unless there’s a seasonal rebate.
3. Grey Market - The risky route. Pros: cheap for "new" gear. Cons: no official Canon warranty so if it dies ur basically stuck with a paperweight or paying for a full repair out of pocket. personally i’d camp out on the refurb site it’s the safest way to save big without the stress.

You can get price drop alert on EOS R8 at When Price Drop. They will send you email when price dropped.

I got EOS R8 at Amazon for around $1300 late week.

Exactly what I was thinking

I totally agree that the specs for the price are actually insane, especially since it shares the same sensor as the Canon EOS R6 Mark II. I have put mine through some pretty heavy testing and honestly, you are getting flagship performance in a tiny body if you know how to work around the limitations. The real value of the R8 comes down to its actual output vs the cost.

  • Sensor Readout: The rolling shutter is surprisingly well-controlled for this price point. I have used it for side-by-side action shots and it holds up way better than the older RP or even some older full-frame competitors.
  • Dynamic Range: Dont listen to the low light haters lol. If you expose correctly, the shadows are super clean. I have pushed my RAW files 3 stops and they look reallyyy great.
  • AF Performance: The deep learning autofocus is basically identical to the more expensive bodies. It sticks to eyes like glue even in messy environments, what else could you want? Instead of just looking for a low price online, definitely check out open-box deals at local camera shops. People often buy the Canon EOS R8, realize it doesnt have IBIS, and return it within a week. You can snag a basically brand new unit for way under retail that way and still get a full warranty! Its worth the hunt for sure.

So I actually just got into photography and picked up the Canon EOS R8 a few months ago because the technical specs for the price are honestly pretty insane. Even though I am still a beginner and learning how to use all the buttons, the autofocus is basically magic for tracking my dog. Its been a few months now and I dont regret it at all, but I found the best way to save was actually looking at things people miss. I ended up getting the Canon EOS R8 with RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM kit but here is what I noticed for the long-term:

  • Check for Education discounts if youre a student or have an old .edu email because Canon does a direct discount that usually stacks.
  • Use a cash back site like Rakuten, wait no, I mean some of those sites offer like 10% back during big sales which makes the price way better than just the sticker.
  • Look for Open Box units at local electronics stores, since you can actually hold it and see if the sensor is clean before you buy it. Do you think you'll be doing more video or photos? Because I noticed the battery life is kinda small so you might need to budget for extra batteries too. The 4K quality is awesome but it eats through the power fast!

Hey! I actually bought an R8 last year hoping to use it for car photography, but unfortunately, I had issues with low light performance. Not as good as expected, honestly. I ended up switching to a used Sony a7III instead – might be worth checking out! Can sometimes find them around your budget. Good luck!
