I just picked up a used 5D Mark IV for my sisters wedding next month and my hands are kinda big so I heard I should get a battery grip. Im really confused though because the official Canon one is super expensive but then I see these random brands on Amazon for way less and I dont want to mess up my camera or have it explode or something. I have no idea where to start with this stuff so sorry if this is a basic question.

  • budget is under 80 dollars
  • must feel solid and not like cheap plastic
  • easy to use for a beginner

Is there a specific brand people actually trust or should I just save up for the real one...

Unfortunately, most budget grips arent as good as expected and often feel quite flimsy. I have had issues with power cutting out on the cheaper clones, which is super risky for a wedding.

Since you gotta stay under 80 bucks, look at these two. They're decent alternatives to the official Canon grip.

> I dont want to mess up my camera or have it explode or something. Late to the party but I feel your pain. Unfortunately, I went through three different third-party grips on my old setup before I learned my lesson. The first one felt like a literal toy... the plastic was so thin I was scared to even tighten the tripod screw. I have had issues with the electronic communication on those cheap clones. One would randomly tell the camera the battery was empty when it was full. Imagine that happening right when the bride is walking down the aisle. Total nightmare. I also noticed the weather sealing on those cheap ones is basically a myth. One light drizzle and the dials started acting possessed. Tbh I was really let down by the build quality of those budget options. It sucks because the official price tag is a gut punch, but the risk of a short circuit is real. Cheap plastic just wont cut it for a wedding.
