My hand is literally cramping up trying to hold this 90D with my heavy Sigma lens all day and its driving me crazy. I have a wedding shoot in Seattle next Saturday and need something that wont fail. I'm torn between the official Canon BG-E14 and the Neewer one.

The Canon is $150 which is insane but I've heard cheap ones lose connection. Then there's the Vello which is about $60. I really dont want to spend the extra cash if third party ones are solid but I'm terrified of it glitching during the vows.

  • Canon BG-E14
  • Neewer
  • Vello

Which one is most reliable?

^ This. Also, if you're really worried about the budget but still want to be safe, just be careful with how you tighten the thing onto your 90D. I've seen some folks over-torque third-party grips and actually crack the plastic frame... total nightmare during a wedding. Honestly, if you're going for the Vello BG-C10 Battery Grip for Canon 70D 80D 90D, it's a pretty solid middle ground, but make sure you're using legit batteries. I've seen people blame the grip when it was actually some cheap knock-off battery failing inside. Ngl, I'd suggest picking up a spare Canon LP-E6NH Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery regardless of which grip you choose. It's better to have the official power cells even in a cheaper shell. Just watch out for that mounting wheel tho... it can get loose after a few hours of heavy shooting and that's usually when the connection drops. Just give it a quick snug check every time you swap cards or whatever.

Late to the party but check the specs! The Canon BG-E14 Battery Grip for EOS 90D is the only one with legit weather sealing. If youre in Seattle rain, those gold-plated contacts are amazing!

Honestly, weddings are high stakes and Seattle weather can be a real pain if it starts drizzling. In my experience, you dont want to be fiddling with a loose connection when the couple is walking down the aisle. Ive tried many third-party grips over the years to save a few bucks, but I usually regret it for professional gigs. The Neewer Vertical Battery Grip for Canon 90D is fine for casual shooting, but the plastic feels thin and the dial sometimes skips.

I totally get the hand cramp struggle! If you want to save money but still get pro results, you gotta check out the Meike MK-70D Professional Battery Grip for Canon 70D 80D 90D. It is fantastic because:

  • It uses high-grade copper for the contact points which prevents that annoying low battery error you get with cheaper clones.
  • The rubberized grip matches the 90D texture perfectly so it feels like one solid unit in your hand!
  • It has a super satisfying shutter button click that isnt mushy at all. Seattle weddings are the best! I was just there last summer and the coffee culture is literally insane. I think I spent half my budget at small local roasters near Capitol Hill before I even got to the venue. The moody clouds make for such epic lighting tho. Anyway... but yeah, the Meike is definitely a sleeper hit for the 90D.
