I need a flash for my Rebel T7 like yesterday because my sisters engagement party is this Saturday in a super dark restaurant. I was looking at the Godox V860III since people say its great but then I saw a post saying the T7 doesnt have a center pin on the hot shoe and that makes a lot of flashes not work? Then I saw the Canon 430EX III-RT is an option but its way more expensive and I only have about 160 bucks left in my budget for this. Im really stressed about buying something that wont even fire when I click the shutter. Which flash actually works with this weird T7 hot shoe and wont break the bank?

Be careful with older gear since that T7 shoe is tricky. I would suggest:

Yeah that missing center pin on the T7 is such a headache honestly, basically a move by Canon to force people into their own ecosystem. Ngl it makes finding cheap third party gear a bit of a gamble if you dont know what to look for. Since you need this for a dark restaurant engagement party, you definitely want something with TTL so you arent constantly fiddling with manual power levels while everyone is eating. If you want to stay under that 160 mark and still get solid performance, here are a couple that actually talk to the T7 shoe correctly:

  • Godox TT350C Mini TTL Flash for Canon
  • Its smaller and uses AAs, but its super reliable with the no-pin hot shoe and way under budget.
  • Yongnuo YN685 II TTL Speedlite for Canon
  • This one is beefier and has more power for bouncing light off tall restaurant ceilings. I'd lean toward the Godox gear just because their ecosystem is easier to expand later. Just double check that the firmware is current and you'll be fine. Good luck with the shoot, youll do great.
