So I've been trying to get this wedding registry stuff sorted for our big day in October and honestly I'm about to pull my hair out with these syncing features. I specifically chose MyRegistry because I heard it plays nice with other stores but now I'm hitting a wall with Best Buy. I went through their help center and saw they have direct sync for Target and Amazon where it updates the quantities and everything but Best Buy is conspicuously missing from that list.
My logic was that since they are a huge retailer it would just work natively but when I tried using the Add to MyRegistry button on my Chrome bar it just seems to pull a static snapshot of the item. I'm really worried because we're looking at some high-ticket items like a $600 Sony soundbar and some smart home gear for our new house in Austin and I've heard Best Buy stock can be super glitchy. I read one old post saying you have to link the accounts but I cant find that option anywhere in the settings menu... it's just so clunky. If I add it manually am I gonna have to go in and check the price every single day? That sounds like a total nightmare and I dont have time for that with all the other planning stuff going on. Does anyone know if there's a hidden way to actually sync the inventory so it stays current or am I stuck with just a basic link that might go dead...
tbh, Best Buy is a pain for these aggregators because they dont offer an open API for real-time inventory syncing like Target or Amazon. Youre right to be cautious about that Sony soundbar. Ive seen prices on high-end audio gear fluctuate by $100 in a single week during sales cycles. Since MyRegistry uses a basic web scraper for Best Buy items, it basically captures a static copy of the SKU data at the moment you click the browser button. I would suggest you check the Sync Settings tab every now and then, but be careful because it doesnt reliably push price drops. If you are dead set on Best Buy gear, make sure to manually refresh the item link every few weeks or you risk someone buying a discontinued model or paying full price for a sale item. Its definitely clunky compared to the native sync options...
@Reply #1 - good point! Honestly, that API issue is a total buzzkill for electronics. I went through this exact headache a few years back when we were registry shopping. I had my heart set on some Sonos speakers and added them via the extension, but a week later the Best Buy SKU changed and the link just dead-ended. Since there is no live sync for them, here is how I managed it:
