What are the best lenses for the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV? I'm looking for recommendations for various photography styles, including landscapes, portraits, and sports. I currently use a 70-200mm lens and am considering adding a versatile walk-around lens. Any suggestions on focal lengths and specific models that work well with the 5D Mark IV? Your insights would be greatly appreciated!

If youre after a versatile walk-around lens that fits a more reasonable budget than the high-end glass, these are the ones I would look at:

  • Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM: Its the standard for a reason. The extra reach to 105mm is great for landscapes and the image stabilization is top tier. The f/4 aperture is the only real trade-off.
  • Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art: Honestly, the sharpness is incredible and it is usually cheaper than the Canon equivalent. Build quality is heavy-duty. It is a bit of a brick weight-wise tho. If you want a dedicated portrait lens without the L-series price tag, the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is still one of the best values out there. Its super fast to focus and very light, which makes a nice break from carrying that 70-200 around.

Here are some of the best options:

  1. Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM: This versatile zoom lens is perfect for various genres, from landscapes to portraits, thanks to its constant f/2.8 aperture and excellent weather sealing.

  2. Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art: Ideal for wide-angle shots, this lens is great for landscapes and astrophotography, offering minimal distortion and superb low-light performance.

  3. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM: A budget-friendly prime lens that delivers excellent sharpness and is perfect for portraits.

  4. Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM: This lens is renowned for portrait photography, providing beautiful bokeh and built-in image stabilization.

  5. Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM: A staple for professionals, this telephoto lens is great for events and wildlife photography.

tbh i'm really happy with how my 5D IV handles. It is such a workhorse and i've been satisfied with how reliable it stays even in the dirt. Just wanted to drop a couple warnings before you spend your cash on more glass...

  • dont forget to check if the lens is weather sealed, especially for landscapes
  • watch the weight because the 5D is already kinda heavy and a huge lens makes it a pain for walk-around shots
  • avoid getting older lenses with noisy autofocus motors because it kinda ruins the video features if you ever use them it really is a great setup tho. let me know if you need more help narrowing it down!
