So we're finally getting our registry together for our October wedding here in Portland and I'm kinda stuck. We really want to be able to add stuff from local shops downtown but also need the basics from places like Target or Crate and Barrel. I've been looking at Zola and MyRegistry but I cant tell which one is actually easier for guests to use when there's stuff from like 5 different sites. Zola seems more polished but MyRegistry looks like it might have better browser extensions for the random local shops. Im leaning towards Zola because the interface is nice but is it actually easy to pull in outside links or am I gonna regret it? Which one actually works best for mixing stores?
Honestly, MyRegistry wins for local shops. I've tried many apps over the years and Zola is pretty but can be a real headache for items they dont actually sell. MyRegistry syncs everything into one list way easier tho.
Omg congrats on the Portland wedding!! That is going to be amazing, seriously. I stumbled upon this today and just had to chime in because I went through the same struggle last year. I ended up using Joy because someone told me their syncing was way more reliable for random links than Zola. I think Zola sometimes forces you to use their cash fund version if they dont carry the item, which felt a little risky to me... I really wanted the actual gift! Im not 100 percent sure if they fixed it, but IIRC Zola had some technical lag with metadata when pulling from local boutique sites. I was so worried guests would buy things that were already sold out! Joy was super easy for the weird boutique stuff and it looks so clean. Honestly, just make sure whatever you pick has a really solid browser extension because adding links manually is a nightmare.
Been thinking about this for a bit since I saw your post. Honestly, I've been super satisfied with using a universal button approach rather than sticking to one store's ecosystem. One thing you really gotta watch for are the hidden costs tho. Some platforms take a cut of cash funds or have weird markups on those outside items, which is just annoying. I personally found that sticking to a simple universal adder is the least stressful way for everyone. Just a heads up, Share Product is really good if you want to include items from smaller boutique shops too because it handles those local URLs without glitching out. It works well and I had no complaints from guests about things being confusing. My biggest tip is to check the 'ship to' settings for those local places since they might not have standard delivery like Target does. It saves so much drama later on, trust me.
