so Ive been eyeing the Sony A7IV for a few months now because Im finally going on my dream trip to Iceland in October and I really need to upgrade from my beat up a6000. My budget is strictly $2100 for the body alone but the prices are all over the place lately. I was looking at CamelCamelCamel to track the trends but my logic was that it only shows Amazon data and I usually prefer buying from B&H or even Adorama if they have a bundle. Then I stumbled onto PriceBefore which seems to have more stores but the site feels a bit buggy and I dont know if I trust their history graphs as much. I also heard some people mention Keepa but that seems more like a pro tool for resellers and I just want to know if that $1900 price point is gonna come back before my flight leaves. Is CamelCamelCamel enough for this or should I be looking at something that aggregates more of the specialized camera shops? Im just trying to figure out if I should pull the trigger now or if theres a predictable dip coming up that one of these sites tracks better...

Re: "tbh tracking sony prices is a whole job..."

  • PriceBefore's scraping is honestly buggy. I lost $200 waiting on bad data. It's disappointing.
  • Use B&H price tracker
  • Check EDU portals

tbh tracking sony prices is a whole job in itself. ive been doing this for years and it still surprises me sometimes. i think camel is fine for a rough idea but since amazon prices fluctuate like crazy its not always the best guide for bh or adorama. not 100 percent sure on this but iirc those big shops usually follow the official sony instant rebates which tend to cycle every few months. if i remember right there was a decent drop last summer so you might get lucky before your iceland trip. prices have been kinda weird lately tho so its hard to be certain if that 1900 mark will hit again soon. honestly i would just keep a close eye on it. im a big fan of PriceDropCatch for B&H gear—it's super lightweight and doesn't clutter up the browser.
