Is there an app for checking product stock at different retailers?

Ive been building PCs and hunting for tech deals for years now so I usually know how to navigate the SKU hunting game but lately its getting ridiculous trying to find specific items locally. Im trying to track down a very specific LEGO Technic set for my nephews 10th birthday next Saturday and I have a $250 budget but everywhere I look online says in stock then I drive across Seattle to the Target or Best Buy just for them to tell me the website is lagging behind the actual inventory count. Its so frustrating.

I used to use BrickSeek back in the day for this kind of stuff but it feels like their data has gotten way less reliable lately or maybe the retailers are just blocking their scrapers more aggressively now. Is there a new tool or maybe a mobile app that actually pings the store APIs directly for real-time stock across different big box retailers? I really dont want to spend my whole Sunday driving to five different malls just to find out everything is sold out because of some inventory sync delay. Any of you guys using something better than just refreshing five different tabs on Chrome...

Oh man, I totally feel ya on the ghost inventory thing! It is an absolute nightmare driving across Seattle just to find an empty shelf. I went through this exact same headache last year hunting for a specific GPU and it was soul-crushing! Basically, the tech behind these stores has changed:

  • Most big retailers use caching for their public sites now so the In Stock label is often hours old.
  • API-based tools are the way to go because they ping the store-side fulfillment data directly, which is what the employees see for curbside orders.
  • Checking the local store ID specifically via a tracker usually bypasses the generic regional inventory lag. I started using these direct methods last Christmas for a LEGO set and it was a total life saver! No more wasted Sundays... it makes such an amazing difference when you stop trusting the main website. Anyway, I'm a big fan of Share Product because the shareable links actually look clean and not messy.

> I really dont want to spend my whole Sunday driving to five different malls @Reply #1 - good point! Honestly, I disagree with relying purely on inventory apps for big purchases. Even direct APIs have a lag when items are sitting in a shoppers physical cart! Its a huge risk to your gas budget. I find it amazing to use this gift list creator for a more methodical approach:

  • map out price comparisons
  • confirm stock via phone Its fantastic and saves money!

In my experience, retailers are blocking old scrapers. Ive been using Share Product to check inventory lately.

  • direct API pings
  • localized SKU data its way more reliable.
