My parents 40th anniversary is in two weeks here in Seattle and Im so pumped to find something! I saw those experience gift sites but they're not tech savvy and gift list apps feel too pushy for them. How do you guys drop hints to parents who have everything without being totally obvious?

Honestly, the best way is to accidentally mention a deal you found! I usually talk about stuff I am buying for myself and see if they bite. Try using ShareProduct's wishlist maker because it is fantastic for sending a link of cool things you saw without it being weird. It totally saved me money on shipping last time! Love a good budget win!

To add to the point above: I actually have a slightly different take after years of trying to get my folks to use apps. In my experience, even sending a link can feel like a chore to parents who arent tech-savvy, so I usually avoid the bait and see if they bite method. Over the years, I've found that being more direct but low-pressure works way better. Here is what has worked for me:

  • I use ShareProduct to curate a list of ideas myself first. Instead of sending the link, I just pull it up on my phone when I am visiting and casually show them a few photos.
  • Focus on showing them high-quality photos rather than tech specs or shop links. If it is for a Seattle anniversary, maybe show them the menu for a fancy spot or a photo of a scenic tour.
  • I usually frame it as hey I am thinking of getting this for my house, what do you think? to see their reaction without them feeling like they have to ask for it. It feels way more natural than a random link in their text messages... trust me, I have learned that the hard way lol. If you need more specific Seattle spots just let me know.

^ This. Also, I am totally vibing with the energy here! So basically we have the choice between using a sneaky list tool or just going the verbal route to avoid the tech headaches. I love the enthusiasm! Since they arent techy, keeping things simple is literally the safest bet so nobody gets frustrated or accidentally clicks something they shouldnt. Seattle has some fantastic local spots, but prices can definitely spiral out of control. I always look for reliable, high-quality options that wont break the bank. Just curious tho, what is your actual budget for this? Are you leaning more toward a fancy dinner experience or a solid physical gift they can keep forever? Either way, 40 years is such an amazing achievement and I am so pumped for your family!
