So I just got this Canon 90D like literally two weeks ago and I am totally freaking out because I volunteered to shoot my nephews soccer tournament here in Seattle next Saturday and I have no clue what I am doing really. The battery seems to die pretty fast when I am messing with the settings and I heard from a guy at the park that I need a battery grip to make it last longer and also to help with holding it sideways because right now my wrist kind of hurts after like twenty minutes of practice.
I looked them up online and oh my god there are so many and the prices are all over the place. I saw one from Canon that is like almost 200 dollars which is way out of my budget since I only have about 130 bucks left after buying the camera bag and everything. But then I saw these other ones from brands I never heard of like Neewer or something? They are way cheaper but I am so scared they will like fry my camera or leak or something because I dont know how the electricity part works and I really cant afford to replace this thing if it breaks.
Also I am super confused about how you even put it on. Do I have to take the little battery door off the bottom of the camera? I am so scared I am gonna snap it off and ruin the whole thing forever. And does the grip thing come with the extra batteries or do I have to buy more of those too? I am really sorry if these are like super basic questions but I am just so overwhelmed with all the buttons and technical stuff and I just want to be able to take photos of the game without the camera dying halfway through. Which battery grip is actually safe to use for a 90D that wont break the bank but also wont break my camera? Is the official one the only way to go or are the cheap ones actually okay for a beginner like me?...
The Vello BG-C18 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 90D is a solid choice within that budget. Note that grips rarely come with batteries, so youll need to buy those separately.
I would suggest looking at third-party options. My current setup has been totally reliable for years, but you might want to be careful so you dont snap the battery door during installation.
