what are some absolute must have accessories for the canon rebel t7 that i actually need? i just picked one up second hand and im taking it on a hiking trip to the smoky mountains in like two weeks so i have a pretty tight timeline to get stuff ordered. im looking at spending maybe $150 tops right now. im torn between grabbing the nifty fifty 50mm lens because everyone says it's better than the kit lens or should i prioritize a sturdy tripod and maybe an extra battery? i dont want to be out on a trail and have a dead camera but i also want my shots to look sharp... which one should i prioritize first for a beginner hiker? or is there something else i totally missed?

Honestly, skip the 50mm lens for this specific trip. While the nifty fifty is sharp, its basically an 80mm equivalent on your T7 crop sensor, which is way too tight for big mountain landscapes. I have been very satisfied using the kit lens at 18mm for hiking shots. My recommendation is to prioritize power and stability. The T7 uses the Canon LP-E10 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack and it drains faster than youd think, especially if you are reviewing photos on the trail. I have had no complaints with the Wasabi Power LP-E10 Battery 2-Pack and Charger for a budget option that works well. You definitely dont want a dead camera at the summit. Also, sharpness in the Smokies usually comes down to shutter speed because of the thick tree canopy and fog. I am very happy with the Vanguard VEO 3GO 235AB Aluminum Travel Tripod because it fits in a pack and keeps things steady for long exposures. Grab a fast card like the SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB SDXC UHS-I V30 too so you do not miss shots while the camera is writing data. TL;DR: Get an extra battery and a portable tripod. Power and stability will save your trip way more than a portrait lens would.
