Hey everyone! I just finally made the jump from my old Rebel DSLR to the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, and I am absolutely loving the mirrorless experience so far. However, moving to the RF system feels like a whole new world, especially with how much more tech-heavy these bodies are compared to my old gear. I want to make sure I am fully prepared for my upcoming shoots, but I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the extra gear and accessories available online.

So far, I have the body and a couple of native lenses, but I am curious about what else is actually necessary for a solid day-to-day setup. I am already looking into the EF-EOS R control ring adapter since I still have a few legacy lenses I want to keep using, but I am also a bit worried about the battery life compared to my old DSLR. Do I really need to stockpile several LP-E6NH batteries for a full day of shooting, or is one spare usually enough? Also, are there specific UHS-II SD cards you recommend that handle the fast burst rates well without being totally overpriced? I am also debating if a screen protector is worth it for that articulating display.

I really want to avoid cluttering my bag with stuff I will never use. For those of you who have been using the R system for a while, what are the top three must-have accessories you would recommend to a newcomer right away?

Hey, welcome to the RF club! Honestly, moving from a Rebel to the Canon EOS R6 Mark II is a massive jump. I remember when I first switched, I was so worried the battery would just die mid-shoot cuz mirrorless bodies are basically tiny computers. In my experience, u dont need to stockpile five batteries, but having at least two Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery packs is basically mandatory for a full day of shooting. One is never enough if ur using the EVF or high-speed burst a lot. For cards, I highkey recommend the Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB UHS-II SDXC Card. It handles those fast 40fps bursts perfectly without being overpriced like some other brands. My top three must-haves would be that spare battery, the Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, and a solid UHS-II card. Lesson learned: dont skimp on card speed or ur buffer will drive u crazy haha. cheers!

Totally agree with the above!! One spare is usually enough if you use a PD power bank. For SD cards, i compared two:

This^ Also wanted to add that battery life is unfortunately not as good as expected compared to your Rebel. Iirc, you really need a PD-compatible power bank for USB-C charging. Not sure but i think some cheaper batteries trigger annoying warnings on the R6 II.

  • Screen protectors... i had issues with my display scratching easily
  • Fast V60 or V90 cards from SanDisk or ProGrade Anyway, hope that helps! peace

No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.
