I've got a wedding to shoot this coming Saturday and my old flash just totally died on me during a test shoot today so I'm kind of panicking right now. I'm using a Canon 5D Mark IV and I really need something reliable that wont overheat because I'm gonna be firing off shots all night during the reception.
I did some quick digging online and everyone keeps pointing towards the Canon 600EX II-RT but man that price tag is steep for a last minute purchase especially since I'm just doing this as a favor for a close friend here in Chicago and not really making a profit. Then I saw a bunch of people raving about the Godox V1 with the round head but then I read some horror stories about the hot shoe foot snapping off or it having weird communication issues with the 5D series specifically so I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on that one.
I've only got like three days to get this shipped or find it in a store near me so I need to decide fast. My budget is probably around $350 or $400 max if I can help it. Does anyone have any actual real world experience with what works best and holds up on the 5D Mark IV without glitching out? I really don't want to buy something that's gonna fail mid-ceremony...
If youre shooting a wedding this weekend, you need reliability.
How big is the hall anyway? I once had a Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II for Canon overheat mid-reception on my 5D. The Westcott FJ80 II Universal Speedlight feels way sturdier than Godox shoes.
Like someone mentioned, those lithium batteries are a total lifesaver for long wedding nights. I've been super satisfied with the Godox V1Pro-C Round Head Flash for Canon lately. It fixed the thermal issues from the original V1 and the metal shoe feels way sturdier on my 5D. Quick tip: grab a Godox AK-R1 Magnetic Accessory Kit to bounce light naturally in those big halls. Works like a charm!
