So I finally pulled the trigger on a used 5D Mark IV for this huge outdoor wedding I'm shooting in Seattle in two weeks. I've been a 6D user for years so I figured the transition would be seamless but I'm lowkey panicking because the battery life is way worse than I expected and my old SD cards keep lagging out with that busy error during burst mode.
I've got maybe $400 left in my budget and I'm terrified of my gear failing mid-ceremony. Besides extra batteries, what are the absolute must-have accessories for the 5D IV to handle those massive file sizes and power draw?
Be careful tho, my SDs used to lag constantly. I switched to a SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB CompactFlash and it was a way cheaper fix than buying those fancy UHS-II cards.
> my old SD cards keep lagging out Caught this late. I remember a rainy shoot where my camera died right at the peak because the 5D IV eats batteries way faster than the 6D. Using the Canon BG-E20 Battery Grip helps with the balance and runtime. Honestly, just look at the tests on The-Digital-Picture for power specs. Also, Lexar Professional 1066x CompactFlash 64GB cards are decent options that wont break your budget like some high-end SDs.
Honestly, my experience with the 5D IV was pretty disappointing because the write speeds just arent as good as expected for those 30MP files. I had massive issues with the buffer locking up during a wedding last year. Are you looking for the fastest possible write speeds or just maximum storage capacity? Also, are you shooting Dual Pixel RAW or standard files?
