Just snagged the R5 Mark II for my wedding gig in Chicago next month and I'm so pumped! I looked at the SmallRig Mamba and the Tilta but I'm seeing conflicting info on whether the older cages block those new vents.

Is there a cage or grip that actually fits the R5II perfectly without thermal issues?

Using the cooling grip? I've tried many, and Kondor Blue Canon EOS R5 Mark II Cage has better cable security, tho 8Sinn Canon EOS R5 Mark II Cage is lighter but feels less durable.

Unfortunately, the R5II cooling design makes old gear useless. I had issues with my old R5 cage blocking the new vents immediately. Its annoying, but you need specific models:

Unfortunately, a lot of brands are just recycling their old molds and it's honestly driving me crazy. I had issues with some early production samples that claimed compatibility but still partially blocked that new intake. They just arent as good as expected for the price. If you want something that actually respects the thermal design, check out the Wooden Camera Core Cage for Canon EOS R5 Mark II. Its built like a tank and doesnt mess with the airflow at all. Check out the gear reviews on Newsshooter too, those guys are way more thorough than the usual influencers. Quick tip tho: make sure your cage doesn't block the side ports because the R5II cable protector is beefier than the old one and some cages wont let it seat properly. Reliability is everything for a wedding gig so dont cut corners here.
