I just got handed this massive Canon EOS 1D X camera from my uncle who stopped doing photography and wow its so much heavier than I thought it would be. I think he said it has a 70-200 lens on it too which makes it even worse to hold up. Im really scared of dropping it because it probably costs more than my car lol. I have a trip to the Grand Canyon coming up in three weeks and I really want to take some nice sunset pictures but I have no idea how to keep this thing steady. I went to a store and the guy mentioned legs and heads separately and I got so confused... like dont they just come in one piece? I have maybe 300 bucks to spend but I could go a bit higher if it means the camera wont tip over and break into a million pieces. Is carbon fiber actually better or just a fancy name? I keep seeing brands like Manfrotto and Benro but honestly all the numbers and weight limits make my head spin. I just need something that wont shake when the wind blows even a little bit. What tripod should I actually get for something this chunky?

I'm very satisfied with my heavy aluminum setup for peace of mind. Quick question tho, is that 70-200 lens the f/2.8 or the f/4 version? The weight difference changes which head you should get. Tbh, at your price point, aluminum is much safer than cheap carbon fiber for a 1DX...

^ This. Also, do you have a tripod collar for that lens?

> like dont they just come in one piece? Man i felt the same way until my first cheap kit nearly snapped. I was shooting on a cliff and the head just started drooping because my camera was way too heavy for it. It was terrifying... honestly i learned the hard way that you gotta check weight ratings. I would suggest getting legs and a head separately so you know they are sturdy enough. Better safe than sorry!
