So I finally bit the bullet and got the Canon R50 for my Japan trip next month. Super excited but man picking a tripod is a nightmare lol. I saw everyone recommending the Joby GorillaPod 3K but then I read a bunch of reviews saying the legs get all loose after a month and that sounds like a waste of money if it cant even hold its shape.

Then there is the Manfrotto Pixi but it doesnt look like it would be comfortable to hold while walking through Tokyo for hours? My budget is like 70 bucks max because I already spent way too much on the camera itself. Is there anything that feels solid but wont break the bank or my wrist?

Jumping in here because ive gone through like five different setups for travel vlogging over the years. Honestly, the problem with those flexible ones is the ball-and-socket joints are just plastic friction. They fail eventually, ngl. Since youre on a budget but want something that wont die in Tokyo, look at all-metal options. I've been using the SmallRig Tabletop Tripod BUT2664 lately. Its made of aluminum alloy, so it basically never wears out like a GorillaPod does. It holds about 2kg which is plenty for an R50 even with a heavier lens. Another solid pick is the Ulanzi MT-24 Metal Desktop Tripod. It has a cold shoe on the side for a mic and the legs have actual locking positions. Way more reliable for walking around Shibuya than a flimsy plastic grip, and usually leaves you with enough cash for some extra ramen.

In my experience, those flexible legs are a total nightmare once the friction joints wear out. I've tried many travel setups over the years, and honestly, you want something rigid if youre hitting Tokyo hard. I remember dragging a bulky rig through Shibuya years ago and my wrist was dead by noon... For the R50, you need something with a decent grip diameter so you arent cramping up. I usually point people toward these for that sub-70 budget:
