Can I share a shopping cart link for a community fundraiser?

So we're doing this big community garden project for the elementary school here in Portland and I'm basically the one stuck trying to organize all the logistics for the spring kickoff which is coming up fast like the first weekend of March. We have a list of stuff we need and we have to stay under a $1,200 budget total. The thing is, the school board is being super weird about us collecting cash directly because of some new accounting policy so they suggested we just have people buy items directly.

We are looking at getting:

  • 20 bags of high-grade organic soil
  • 15 sets of kids gardening gloves
  • a few specific blueberry and raspberry bushes
  • heavy duty shovels and rakes

I spent like three hours last night looking into how to actually do this without making it a total headache for the donors. I saw some stuff about Amazon wishlists but honestly the quality of their gardening stuff is hit or miss and we really wanted to use the local nursery's site or even just a big box store like Home Depot for the bulk soil. I read online that there are these browser extensions like Share-a-Cart where you can basically fill a cart and send a link but then I saw a couple reddit threads saying that sometimes the links expire after like 24 hours or the other person needs to have the same extension installed for it to even work which sounds like a disaster if I'm sending this out to like 50 parents who aren't tech savvy at all.

Plus I'm worried about my own account info being attached to the link somehow? I dont want people seeing my home address or my saved card info if I'm the one who started the cart. I just want a way where I can pick out the stuff and then just blast a link out in the newsletter so someone can click it, pay, and have it sent to the school. Is there a way to do this that actually works across different websites or am I stuck making 15 different accounts and hoping for the best?...

Unfortunately, store websites are usually a nightmare for this stuff. I had issues with Home Depot links expiring way too fast, which was not as good as expected for my project last year.

  • Are you trying to have one person pay for everything?
  • Or do you need multiple parents to claim specific items? I actually found a solution on Share-A-Cart that works perfectly for sharing Amazon lists without giving out your password.

Any updates on this?

Saw this earlier but just getting to it now. I manage technical inventory for a local group and had similar privacy concerns last year. My experience using Share-A-Cart was quite positive because it strips away your personal info like addresses or payment methods before sharing.

  • Generates a static cart ID
  • No account info shared
  • Supports major retailers like Home Depot It works well for keeping things organized without the technical headaches of expiring sessions.
