I really messed up and waited until the last minute to sort out my audio for a wedding im shooting this Saturday in Chicago. I just got the Canon R6 Mark II and while the video is amazing the internal mic is just trash for a ceremony. I was looking at the Rode VideoMic Pro+ because everyone uses it but then I saw some reviews saying it feels cheap and picks up a ton of wind even with a deadcat. Then I saw the Sennheiser MKE 600 and it sounds way better in tests but people are saying I might need a specific XLR to 3.5mm cable or that the R6 II preamps might hiss if I dont get the levels perfect. I dont have time to mess around with external recorders I just need a solid shotgun mic that mounts on the cold shoe and plugs straight in. My budget is around 250 or 300 bucks max and I need to order it tonight so it gets here by Friday. Is the Rode actually the way to go for this specific camera or is there something better I havent seen yet that handles the R6 Mark II preamps better without a ton of hiss?
Ive had issues with the Rode VideoMic Pro+ On-Camera Microphone, its not as good as expected. TL;DR: Buy the Rode VideoMic NTG On-Camera Shotgun Microphone. Its cheaper and cleaner.
Unfortunately I had issues with the Rode build quality lately, its just not as good as expected. Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.
