so i just grabbed the canon r100 for a trip to the grand canyon next week and im kinda panicking about what to get for the kit lens. i was looking online and some people say a uv filter is a total must to save the glass but then others say it just causes weird flares and is a waste of money if youre not in a sandstorm or something. i also saw stuff about circular polarizers for the sky but i only have about 60 bucks left in my budget after buying the camera.

is it better to just get one decent cpl or should i stick to a basic protective filter so i dont scratch it while hiking? i really dont want to ruin my shots with cheap glass but i also dont want a broken lens on day one...

Skip the UV filter. In my experience, a Tiffen Circular Polarizer 49mm is way better for those canyon views.

  • kills glare
  • deepens blues Just use your lens hood for protection.
