What travel lens am I supposed to buy for this R10 that isnt a total ripoff? Honestly so fed up with the kit lens because the 18-45mm is useless the second the sun goes down and I am traveling to Italy next month and really dont want to ruin my trip photos.
I have a hard budget of $450 which feels like nothing for Canon RF glass but there has to be something better out there. Im looking for one lens that can do it all because I hate swapping gear in crowds. Is the 18-150mm actually worth the upgrade or am I just throwing more money at a problem that cant be fixed without spending thousands...
Just a heads up, even if you grab a bigger zoom, those aperture numbers still suck for night shots. Italy has these super narrow, dim alleys where f/6.3 just isnt gonna cut it. Since you are on a tight budget, you might want to consider the Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM. It is tiny, like genuinely fits in a jacket pocket, so you are not really lugging extra gear. If you really want that one-lens setup, the Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM is the best choice for the R10, but please be careful with your expectations for low light. You will still be fighting noise in those piazzas after dark. Maybe grab a cheap used Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapter and find an old EF-S prime? Just some food for thought tho...
Honestly, I'm super happy with my Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. Took it to Europe last year and it stayed on my camera the whole trip. Works well for the price.
Like someone mentioned, aperture is your biggest hurdle. In my experience, these two offer the best performance for your budget:
