Man, I just snagged a used 1DX Mark I and I'm honestly freaking out a bit because I spent almost my whole budget on the body and now I realized I need some seriously fast CF cards if I want to actually use that 12fps burst mode for my kids regional soccer finals next Saturday. I was looking at the SanDisk Extreme Pro ones, the 160MB/s ones, which seem like the gold standard but they are so pricey for the 64GB or 128GB versions even on the used market. Then I saw the Lexar Professional 1066x cards on Amazon and they are a bit cheaper but Ive heard some horror stories about the newer Lexar batches failing or just being inconsistent and the last thing I need is a card error while the ball is mid-air in the box.

My logic was that the 1DX has dual slots so maybe I could get one really fast SanDisk and then a cheaper backup? But then if the buffer hangs because the second card is slow it kind of defeats the whole purpose of the high speed camera right? I also looked at some Delkin Devices cards but I dont know anyone who actually uses them in the field and the reviews are kind of all over the place. I have about 150 bucks left to spend on storage and I need at least enough space to get through a couple hours of shooting RAW without having to swap cards every ten minutes because I'll definitely miss something.

So I'm torn between getting two 64GB Lexar 1066x cards for the price of one SanDisk or just biting the bullet and getting one 128GB SanDisk Extreme Pro and hoping I don't run out of space. Is the SanDisk really that much more reliable in the 1DX? I've read some old forum posts saying the 1DX is picky with UDMA 7 cards and I dont want to buy something that's gonna give me that Card Error screen of death in the middle of the game. What are you guys using in your old 1D bodies these days? Is it worth the extra cash for the name brand or is Lexar fine for sports? I feel like if I go too cheap I'm gonna regret it when the camera locks up during a goal but if I spend too much I wont even be able to afford the gas to drive to the tournament lol. Anyone have experience with the newer Lexar stuff in this specific body or should I just stick to SanDisk...

Ive used the 1DX for years and SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB CF 160MB/s is the only UDMA 7 card that hasnt choked during 12fps bursts. Newer Lexars have failed me way too often.

Regarding what #1 said about Lexar, honestly same! I recently tried the Delkin Devices 64GB Black CF UDMA 7 and it's been fantastic for fast action. Zero buffer issues ever!
