Recommended memory cards for high-speed shooting on Canon RF cameras?

I recently upgraded to a Canon EOS R6 Mark II and I am really struggling with my current SD cards when using the high-speed burst mode. At 40fps, my old UHS-I cards just cannot keep up and the buffer takes ages to clear, which is super frustrating when I am trying to capture fast action.

I have been looking at different V60 and V90 options like the ProGrade Digital or the Sony Tough series. I am mainly shooting wildlife and some 4K 60p video, so speed and reliability are huge factors for me.

Are V90 cards absolutely necessary to avoid lag on these newer RF bodies, or can I get away with a high-end V60? What specific cards are you guys using to keep your buffers clear?

Ok so, i've been shooting with the Canon R system for a few years now, and honestly, that 40fps burst on the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera is a beast that'll choke an old card in seconds. I get the frustration!! While V90 cards are technically the best for clearing that buffer fast, they're also insanely pricey. If you're on a budget, you might want to consider a high-end V60 card instead. For your situation, I would suggest the ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II Video Speed Class 60 (V60) 256GB Memory Card. It handles 4K 60p easily and costs way less than V90s. If you really want that V90 speed without the Sony Tough price tag, look at the Kingston Canvas React Plus SDXC UHS-II 128GB (V90) Memory Card. It's basically the best bang-for-your-buck V90 out there. Just make sure to format in-camera... it's saved me a few headaches over the years. gl!

Totally agree with the above! In my experience, these are great:

honestly its ridiculous that we even have to have this conversation. I totally agree with the frustration here... the whole memory card market is basically a scam at this point. I have spent way too much time over the years testing NAND flash and looking at controller specs for my own builds, and the profit margins these companies are pulling on V90 cards are absolutely insane. It drives me crazy that manufacturers give us 40fps burst rates but then stick us with legacy UHS-II slots instead of better tech. Its like they want us to suffer through buffer lag or pay five times the actual manufacturing cost for a tiny bit of high-speed silicon. Tbh I am just sick of Pro branding being used as an excuse to overcharge for tech that should have been standard years ago. Just venting because I have tried so many cards that fail or throttle way before their rated speeds anyway. The industry is just milking us at this point and it wont get better until we stop paying these prices.
