Grabbed an R50 for travel but the 1.6x crop is killing me. My logic was the 18-45mm kit would work for vlogging but it’s too tight at arm's length.
Need a compact wide lens under $300 for a trip next week... is the 10-18mm the only good choice for this body?
I went through this exact same headache last summer when I first got my hands on the R50. I tried to make that kit lens work during a weekend trip to Chicago, but man, trying to vlog at arms length was basically just a close-up of my nose. Super frustrating. I eventually bit the bullet and grabbed the Canon RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM and it has been a total game changer for my travel setup. It is incredibly tiny, weighs almost nothing, and fits right in that sub-$300 budget if you find a good deal. Im really satisfied with how the image stabilization works too, especially since the R50 doesnt have IBIS. Tbh, for the money, it is the only native glass I would trust for a trip next week. I have used it on dozens of shoots now and have zero complaints. It just works well for what it is.
^ This. Also, are you using Digital IS? It compounds that 1.6x crop significantly.
