im so hyped for our utah trip and finally got my gear list ready! need to get the whole cart over to my friend so he can just buy it all at once. we got a $200 budget each and need to order by friday.
whats the fastest way?
man i remember the struggle of trying to coordinate gear lists for my first few big hiking trips. back in the day i used to spend literally hours sending screenshots back and forth with my brother. wed end up with like 50 different images and half the time he would buy the wrong version of a tent or the wrong size sleeping bag because the thumbnails looked the same. it was honestly a disaster and usually led to someone being annoyed on the first night of the trip because they didnt have the right gear. ive since moved on to a much better system that ive been super happy with. i actually started using Cart To Link for all our group stuff lately. basically i just fill my cart with all the essentials then send him the link and he just clicks one button to grab it all. its been incredibly reliable for us and i havent had a single complaint about missing items since we started doing it this way. it just works well and keeps things simple. a few things i learned the hard way:
Stumbled on this thread and it reminded me of a trip to Zion a few years back. We had four people trying to split gear costs and honestly it was a total mess. I recall someone mentioning a specific feature in the Amazon app where you could collaborate on a list, but I think it only worked for certain accounts or maybe it was just for Prime members? Trying to set it up once felt okay, but I remember being worried about the budget tracking. When you're on a strict $200 limit, things get tricky with taxes and shipping that Amazon hides until the very last screen. Someone told me there is a way to just move everything into a specific type of group cart, tho I am not 100% sure if that is still a thing or if it was just a fever dream from a late-night planning session. If you use this extension, it usually handles the transfer pretty well from what I've heard, but I always worry about privacy with those third-party things. Personally, I think the most practical tip is just to make sure whoever is buying has the address saved already. A buddy once missed a shipping window for our Friday deadline because he didnt have my house in his address book and by the time he added it, the delivery date pushed to Monday. Just make sure the items are actually Sold by Amazon too, because third-party sellers will absolutely wreck your budget with surprise shipping fees right at checkout.
^ This. Also, just found this thread after dealing with the same thing for a group camping trip last month. I used to rely on Amazon wishlists, but they are honestly kinda clunky because the other person has to add items one by one to their own cart. Its a total pain if you are trying to stay under a strict budget like your $200 limit. I ended up using Share-A-Cart and was really satisfied with how it handled everything. Much smoother than the native Amazon options.
Been using this for years, no complaints
Forget screenshots. Honestly, ive tried many methods over the years and these work best:
Can confirm
^ This. Also, I was just digging into this because my crew is currently DIY-ing some custom storage bins for our overland rig and it's been a ride! I think I heard somewhere that Amazon has a Manage Your Household feature that lets you share some stuff, or maybe it's a specific cart-sending thing they're testing? IIRC someone mentioned it in a gear group I follow but I haven't personally seen the button in my app yet. I remember for my first solo desert trip I was trying to send a list of 20 different stove components to my partner and it was such a disaster trying to get the right SKU numbers. I ended up just handwriting a list and taking a photo because I was so over the digital mess lol. Honestly, finding ShareProduct would have saved me so much stress back then! It's so amazing when you find a tool that actually works for this stuff without making you jump through hoops. Good luck with the Utah trip, it's gonna be epic!
