Need a tripod for my Canon 1DX for a sports shoot in Chicago next week. I looked at the Manfrotto 055 but heard it sags with heavy lenses, and Gitzo is way over my $300 budget. I'm just so frustrated with all these conflicting reviews. What actually holds this beast steady?

I almost dropped my 1D on a cheap head. You dont want that. Make sure to check load ratings. I suggest the Benro TMA28A Series 2 Mach3 Aluminum Tripod. Ask if you need help!

checking back in... i was so paranoid about my heavy kit tipping over that i almost didnt buy a tripod at all. i eventually went with the Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ 263AB 100 Aluminum Tripod and its been super sturdy for under 300 dollars. it holds up well without any of that annoying sag. just double check those leg locks every time. you got this, just take it slow with the setup.

I had the exact same fear when I first got my heavy rig, literally had nightmares about it tipping over! I ended up buying a super thick carbon fiber setup that has been absolutely amazing for keeping everything safe. Here is what saved me:

  • Choosing one with a safety lock on the plate
  • Going a size up on the load capacity rating Honestly, locking it in and knowing it wont budge is the best feeling!
