So I just pulled the trigger on the R8 and im literally panicking because I have my sisters engagement party in like 10 days and no good glass yet. I was looking online and everyone keeps saying to get the RF 35mm f1.8 because of the image stabilization but then I read some forum posts saying the autofocus is kinda loud and slow for video? Then there is the 50mm f1.8 which is way cheaper but people say it feels like a toy and isnt sharp enough for the R8 sensor. Im stuck because my budget is strictly under 500 bucks and I need something fast for low light indoor shots. Which prime is actually worth it for a beginner moving to full frame...?

I would go with the Canon RF 35mm f1.8 Macro IS STM for sure. It works great for indoor events because the wider field of view is way more forgiving when you cant back up. The 50mm is a decent option for cheap, but it feels kinda tight for parties. Quick tip: keep your shutter speed up and the stabilization will handle the rest... its definitely worth the extra cash.
