Which external mic should I get for vlogging with my Canon R6 II? I'm totally new to this and the built-in audio sounds really messy when I'm walking around outside.

I only have like 150 bucks left before my Japan trip next month. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I dont even know how they attach...

Totally stoked for your Japan trip! Ive spent way too much time testing mics on my R6 II. Since youre new, you really want something that does the heavy lifting for you so you dont ruin your vacation footage with peaking audio. Check out these two gems that fit your budget:

  • Rode Wireless ME Compact Digital Wireless Microphone System
  • This is literally amazing for beginners. It has GainAssist which automatically adjusts your volume so you never clip. It clips onto your shirt and the receiver slides onto your camera shoe.
  • <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser+MKE+200+On-Camera+Directional+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=2222&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser MKE 200 On-Camera Directional Microphone
  • If you hate wires, this is super tiny and has a built-in wind screen. Its way better than the internal mic for blocking out noise in busy places like Shibuya. Pro tip: go watch Curtis Judd on YouTube. He is the absolute master of audio and explains everything so simply. Honestly, getting the levels right is 90% of the battle... have a blast!

In my experience, these are best for vlogging under $150:

Just catching up here. Like someone mentioned, shotguns are easy, but you might want to be careful with ambient noise in Japan. I once ruined a shoot because my mic picked up every single car. I would suggest the Synco G2 A1 Wireless Lavalier System. It has a decent signal-to-noise ratio and stays way under your 150 budget. Just make sure to keep the camera gain low so you dont get hiss.
