just picked up my R6 mark ii today and im literally vibrating with excitement lol. i spent way too much on the body though so i only have like $400 or $500 max for everything else. i was looking at cards and people say get V90 but then others say V60 is fine for photography and only matters for heavy 4k video? im mostly shooting my kids soccer games and some landscape stuff so do i really need the expensive ones? also i have some old glass and idk if i should get the basic canon adapter or if the one with the control ring is actually worth the extra cash.

  • spare batteries (OEM or third party?)
  • card reader recs?
  • screen protector brands?

what else am i missing that i actually need right now...

Congrats on the gear. Since youre on a tight budget now, i would suggest prioritizing reliability over fancy features. Be careful with third-party batteries. Ive seen them swell and get stuck, so sticking with the Canon LP-E6NH Li-Ion Battery is the only safe bet for a new R6 II. You really dont want to risk your warranty or the camera electronics just to save a few bucks. For the SD cards, you definitely dont need V90 for soccer. A solid V60 like the SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II V60 SDXC handles those high-speed bursts just fine. The basic Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is also a better buy than the ring version if cash is tight. The control ring is cool but not essential, and the standard one is built way better than cheap third-party knockoffs anyway. Just make sure to check the weather seals before mounting.

^ This. Also, unfortunately, the control ring adapter wasn't as smooth as I'd hoped. It felt a bit clunky. For cards, Angelbird AV PRO SD MK2 V60 128GB is more consistent for sports than the ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V60 Gold, which unfortunately runs hot. V60 is plenty for soccer, dont overspend there. Also, skip cheap readers; the SanDisk Professional PRO-READER SD and microSD is much more reliable. Youll love the camera tho!

Just saw this and omg huge congrats on the R6 II! It is seriously such an amazing camera and youre going to have a total blast shooting those soccer games!! Honestly tho... can we just vent for a second about screen protectors? Putting those things on is basically my personal version of hell. Seriously, cleaning the screen like ten times and using the little stickers never works for me because some microscopic piece of dust still finds its way under there. It drives me absolutely insane! I end up wasting half a pack just trying to get it perfect without bubbles. Why is it so hard?! It makes me feel like I have zero coordination lol. Anyway, since youre watching the budget, I really think the Lexar Professional 1667x SDXC UHS-II 128GB is the way to go for the cards. It is super fast for those action bursts and way cheaper than the V90s. Also definitely grab the ProGrade Digital USB 3.2 Gen 2 Dual-Slot SD/microSD Card Reader because using a slow reader is just painful when you have hundreds of photos to move. For the screen itself, the ULBTER Tempered Glass Screen Protector 3 Pack is decent because at least you get three tries for when you inevitably mess up the first two like I always do!
