I just splurged on the R5 Mark II because my cousin said it was the best but I honestly have no idea what I'm doing. I'm going to Japan next month and I need a lens that can basically do everything. My logic was that I should get something that zooms in and out so I dont have to switch them but I keep seeing people talk about primes and f-stops and it makes my head spin. I saw a 24-105mm one online and thought that sounded okay? My budget is around 1300 dollars. I just want my vacation photos to look professional without me having to be an expert...
Go for the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM! It superiorly handles low light compared to the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM. Its weather sealing and constant f/4 are just fantastic for Japan!
Re: "Like someone mentioned, the 24-240 is a choice,..." - but that thing is honestly a total tank to carry. For Japan, youll be walking a ton and your neck will definitely feel it. Id actually stick with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM. It fits your budget and the f/4 stays the same when you zoom. That makes a huge difference for beginners because your brightness wont randomly change while youre trying to take a photo.
Like someone mentioned, the 24-240 is a choice, and honestly I've been super satisfied with it. It works well for basically everything and I have no complaints. I'm always cautious about sensor dust, so having that 10x zoom range is a lifesaver when traveling. You can usually find the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM for around 900 bucks. TL;DR: Get the 24-240mm for maximum versatility without swapping lenses.
Honestly it drives me crazy how much these companies expect people to just know out of the box. I remember my first big trip to Europe and I spent more time worrying about my gear failing or getting ripped off on a kit that wasnt even weather sealed properly than actually taking photos. Its such a scam that you buy a top tier camera like that and then have to navigate this absolute minefield of confusing specs just to get a decent shot. Prices for glass are getting out of control too... it feels like you need a masters degree in physics just to understand why one piece of glass costs double another when they look the same on paper. It really sucks for anyone just trying to capture memories without becoming a technical geek overnight. These manufacturers dont make it easy at all and the gatekeeping in the hobby is just as bad tbh... people just want stuff that works without having to sell a kidney.
Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.
