I just got the Canon EOS R6 V and I am so stoked to start filming stuff!! I'm basically a total beginner so please bear with me because I literally have no clue what I'm doing half the time lol. I've been trying to film my kids playing soccer outside but the little screen on the back of the camera is just so small and it's super hard to see when the sun is out. Someone told me I should get an external monitor thingy that attaches to the top? I think?

I did a quick search online and there are so many brands like Ninja and Feelworld and I'm just drowning in all the tech specs and stuff. I dont even know what a LUT is or if I need 4k or whatever. My budget is probably around $350 max because I already spent a ton on the camera itself and my wife might kill me if I spend more haha. I'm going on a big family vacation to Florida in three weeks so I'd love to have something by then so I dont miss all the cool shots.

I'm mostly looking for:

  • something really bright for the sun
  • something that isn't too heavy for the camera
  • something super easy to set up

Does anyone have a recommendation for which one actually works best with the R6 V? Like do I need special cables or is it just plug and play? I really just want something that won't break the bank and is easy for a newbie like me to figure out without watching ten hours of tutorials...

Late to the party here but I had to jump in because I’ve been through this exact struggle! I once tried filming a track meet in July with a basic monitor and it was a total disaster... I was basically flying blind. For your R6 V and that Florida sun, you 100% need something with high nits. I absolutely love the Feelworld LUT6 6-inch 2600nit Ultra Bright Touchscreen for this.

  • It has 2600 nits which is bright enough to see even without a sunhood.
  • Super lightweight so it wont make your rig feel like a brick.
  • Costs way less than the big name brands, leaving you money for snacks! Just make sure you grab a good Kondor Blue Braided HDMI to Micro HDMI Cable 12 inch because the R6 port is tiny. It’s basically plug and play tho, no crazy tech degree required. You’re gonna have an amazing time in Florida!!
