I just got back from a week in Zion and honestly im just so frustrated with my current kit. I have this amazing EOS 5D Mark IV but my landscape shots look like trash because I was struggling with my gear the whole time. My cheap tripod literally seized up because of the sand and water in the Narrows and I ended up missing the golden hour glow because I couldnt get the damn thing level. Then I realized my cheap screw-on filters were giving me this horrible purple tint on the edges of my frames and I just wanted to throw the whole bag into the river. Its so annoying spending thousands on a body and then cheaping out on the stuff that actually makes the shot work. I have about 12 days before I head out to the Oregon coast for a workshop and I refuse to let this happen again. I need a real list of the essential landscape accessories that actually work with the 5D IV. Like what L-bracket is actually worth the money and wont block the side ports when Im trying to use a remote trigger? I also need a serious filter system recommendation because Im done with the cheap circular ones that jam. And what are you guys using for remote shutters? I tried the app on my phone but the connection kept dropping out in the middle of nowhere and it drove me crazy. I have a decent budget for this—maybe around $1500 to get fully sorted—because I just want things that work. Should I be looking at a specific glass brand for the 5D IV sensor? Also if anyone has a recommendation for a rugged bag that doesnt feel like a lead brick after three miles of hiking that would be great too. What are the absolute non-negotiables I need to buy right now so I dont ruin another trip? Im tired of fighting my gear instead of taking pictures...

Just adding my two cents... I absolutely love my NiSi V7 100mm Filter System Kit for landscapes! The built-in CPL is fantastic and its much easier to adjust. For a bracket, the Kirk BL-5D4 L-Bracket for Canon 5D Mark IV is amazing because it wont block your ports. Also, the Shimoda Action X50 V2 Backpack is amazingly rugged and feels light even on long coastal hikes!

I had that exact same nightmare in Iceland! A cheap L-bracket blocked my cable release right at sunrise... sucked. You gotta get the Really Right Stuff B5D4-L Set for Canon 5D Mark IV because it fits perfectly and keeps ports accessible. For filters, the Lee Filters 100mm Deluxe Kit is a total game changer for the 30.4MP sensor. Truly incredible glass!

I agree that reliable equipment is vital for safety.

  • Dont you prefer lightweight gear?
  • Is weather resistance a priority? Knowing your exact environment helps determine which durable systems actually work.
