What are the must-have accessories for a new Canon RF body?

I just pulled the trigger on an R6 II and honestly I am panicking a little bit because I spent basically my whole savings on the body and one lens. I need to get it ready for my cousins wedding in like two weeks in Seattle so it's probably gonna be raining and I'm stressed about keeping the thing safe. I've been looking at what else I need but there is so much conflicting info out there. Some people say you HAVE to have V90 SD cards for the new RF sensors but then other people say V30 is totally fine if you arent doing high bit rate video and I just dont want the camera to freeze up or buffer while they are doing the vows or something. Also I'm seeing stuff about UV filters. Are they actually necessary for weather sealing? I read that some RF lenses need a front filter to be fully sealed but others dont and its honestly super confusing for a beginner to this system.

Here is what I am dealing with:

  • Budget is strictly under $300 for everything right now
  • Use case is mostly weddings and some street stuff
  • I need it to be somewhat rain-proof or at least safe from splashes since its the PNW
  • I only have the one battery that came in the box

Is a second battery more important than a fast card? And what about those Peak Design straps, are they worth the hype or just a brand name thing? I feel like I'm missing something obvious...

Im satisfied with this technical kit for your budget:

To add to the point above: the previous suggestions for a battery and basic card are spot on for staying under that $300 limit. Dealing with a wedding in the rain is stressful, so keeping things simple is key. Comparing your card options for a wedding context:

  • ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V60 128GB: Faster buffer clearing than standard cards. Worth the extra few bucks so you dont miss the kiss because the camera is busy writing to the card.
  • Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 128GB SDXC V30: Great budget alternative if you need to save cash for other stuff, but might feel sluggish during bursts. For the PNW weather, if you skip the expensive shells, just grab a OP/TECH USA Rainsleeve 2-Pack. They are basically plastic bags for your gear but they really work when things get messy. TL;DR: Get a second battery and the ProGrade V60 card. The R6 II is a beast, but slow cards will definitely frustrate you during high-pressure moments like weddings.

Saw your post and just had to chime in because that R6 II is such an amazing camera!! You must be so stoked!! Learning this system is a lot, but honestly, you made a fantastic choice. Someone told me that the weather sealing thing really depends on the lens you have. I think some of them have a rubber gasket at the mount but others need a filter to be fully tight... its so confusing tbh! Definitely prioritize these:

  • Grab a second battery before anything else!! You cannot risk the camera dying during the vows.
  • Stick with a decent V30 card for now. I think V90 is only if you do super high-end video stuff and photos should be fine.
  • Get a nice padded strap because the basic one is honestly so uncomfortable for long days. Not 100% sure on the filter situation so maybe check the manual for your specific lens? Seattle rain is super spooky for gear so maybe just grab some cheap plastic rain covers too. Good luck!!
