Honestly so frustrated with this kit lens, its blurry and the battery dies way too fast. My logic was that I wouldnt need more stuff right away but I guess I was wrong.

Got a family shoot in Seattle soon and only 100 bucks left. What are the actual essentials I need to not mess this up?

Unfortunately, the kit lens that comes with the T7 is pretty much garbage for anything beyond basic snapshots. I had issues with mine early on too, and it just doesnt deliver the sharpness you need for a proper family shoot. Its not as good as expected, tbh, especially when the light starts to drop. To fix the blurriness without breaking your tiny budget, you really need to pick up the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens. It is basically the only way to get those clean, professional-looking portraits on a budget. It performs way better in Seattles typical overcast light than that kit lens ever will. Regarding the battery dying, the T7 is notorious for poor power management. You wont make it through a full afternoon session on one charge, especially if youre checking the screen constantly. Since you only have a hundred bucks left, skip the official Canon ones because they are way overpriced. Grab something like the BM Premium LP-E10 Battery 2-Pack and Charger instead. Ive used these for years when I didnt want to drop fifty bucks on a single OEM battery, and they work well enough. Just keep both spares in your pocket. Between the lens and the batteries, youll be right at your limit, but at least your photos wont look like they were taken with a potato. Dont expect miracles from the T7 body itself tho, its pretty entry-level...
