I just picked up my first Canon RF body and I'm super excited! Since I'm moving over from a DSLR, I'm trying to figure out what’s actually worth buying. Should I prioritize the EF-EOS R adapter, or are extra batteries a bigger deal since mirrorless eats power faster? I'd love to know what your 'day one' purchases were for your RF setup!
> Should I prioritize the EF-EOS R adapter, or are extra batteries a bigger deal? In my experience, mirrorless glass is exposed and basically repairs cost a ton. Compare Expert Shield Glass Screen Protector for safety vs SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC for speed. Both work well!
> I'm trying to figure out what’s actually worth buying. Should I prioritize the EF-EOS R adapter, or are extra batteries a bigger deal since mirrorless eats power faster? Oh man, congrats on the upgrade but watch out!! So basically, mirrorless cameras have these digital viewfinders that use tons of power compared to DSLRs... that's why battery life is such a headache. Honestly, I was so disappointed when my first body died mid-shoot because I wasn't prepared. For your situation, I highkey recommend getting the Canon LP-E6NH Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery immediately. I tried using some cheap third-party batteries once and they unfortunately didn't last half as long as the Canon ones—one even got stuck cuz it swelled up! Seriously scary stuff. Also, if you have old lenses, the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is essential, though I found it kinda makes the setup bulky. Maybe also look into a SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Card if ur old ones are slow?? Anyway, definitely prioritize power first... good luck!
I totally agree that safety is the biggest priority. Since I'm new to this too, I was SO worried about the sensor being exposed during lens swaps... it basically feels way more fragile than my DSLR was. Instead of sending it off for an expensive professional service, I decided to try some DIY maintenance to save money. I'd really recommend getting a Giottos Rocket Air Blaster for ur kit. It’s a simple way to keep things clean yourself without actually touching the sensor. I also picked up a VisibleDust Zeeion Blower, just to be safe. Honestly, I’m still a bit scared of doing a full wet clean myself, but having the blower definitely helps with the anxiety of seeing dust spots!
Helpful thread 👍
Works great for me
For your situation, I suggest being careful since, like the first reply said, mirrorless viewfinders draw power constantly. It makes extra batteries highkey important, but it really depends on your style. Before giving more advice: - Are you planning to do long video shoots or just stills?
- How many EF lenses do you actually have right now? Just wanna make sure you dont buy gear you wont use... lol.
