so I finally got my hands on the R5 Mark II for this wedding shoot in Chicago this Friday but honestly im so frustrated right now because my old R5 cage doesn't fit right and the cheap one I just grabbed off Amazon blocks the new vent and the top dial is almost impossible to turn. its driving me crazy because I spent all this money on the body and now I cant even rig it up properly without it feeling like a complete mess. I need something that actually works with the new layout and wont overheat the camera during long takes. my budget is like 150 bucks but i need it fast. what are the best cages for Canon EOS R5 Mark II?

In my experience, the SmallRig Cage for Canon EOS R5 Mark II 4734 is your best bet. It has dedicated vent clearance and wont block your dials like those generic Amazon ones.

Ive been super satisfied with the SmallRig Cage for Canon EOS R5 Mark II 4734 lately. It fits way better than the Tilta Full Camera Cage for Canon R5 II I tried first.

Like someone mentioned, the new layout is a real pain if you're trying to reuse old gear. I've tried many different cages over the years and honestly, the biggest mistake is going for the cheapest one just to save a few bucks. Since you're doing a wedding in Chicago, reliability is everything. You dont want the camera cutting out because of heat issues. Keep an eye out for these red flags:

  • Blocking the new vent system
  • Poor access to the top dials
  • Cheap metal that might scratch the body I'd suggest checking out some of the build videos on YouTube or looking at the B&H reviews from actual owners. Brands like Kondor Blue or 8Sinn usually have much better tolerances than the generic ones. Tbh, it might be worth spending slightly over your budget to make sure your camera stays cool during those long takes... hope you get it sorted before Friday!
