What are the best budget-friendly spare batteries for Canon RF cameras?

Ive been shooting Canon for over a decade but these new mirrorless bodies are total power hogs compared to my old DSLRs. I just picked up an R6 and I have a huge wedding gig in Chicago in two weeks but realized I only have the one battery it came with. Eighty bucks for an official LP-E6NH is just insane and I really cant swing that right now after dropping so much on the body and glass. My old third party batteries keep giving me errors or disabling the high speed burst which is super frustrating. Does anyone know some reliable budget-friendly brands that actually work with the RF system?

Building on the earlier suggestion, I'd actually be a bit wary of just grabbing the absolute cheapest ones you find online. I had a scary experience where a generic battery started swelling inside my old camera and I almost couldnt get it out... honestly thought I was gonna have to pay for a huge repair. For a wedding, you might want to consider spending just a tiny bit more for peace of mind because you dont want your gear dying mid-vows.

  • I moved over to the SmallRig LP-E6NH USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery 2400mAh.
  • It is still way cheaper than Canon ones but has better safety chips than the super generic stuff.
  • You dont even need a separate charger since it has a port right on the battery... saves cash and space in your kit. Just make sure you dont get the older non-H versions or your R6 wont give you that full 12fps burst speed you need for the walk down the aisle.

Yeah, the swelling point is legit... you gotta watch out for cheap cells. I've been testing the SmallRig LP-E6NH USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery 2400mAh and the specs are solid. The internal chip handles the Canon handshake, so you keep that high-speed burst. It runs slightly warmer than OEM during long video takes, but for a wedding in Chicago, the built-in USB-C charging is a decent option for convenience.

Man, I totally get the struggle with those R6 batteries! I saw this earlier and it immediately made me think of my buddys wedding shoot last fall. He tried to save some cash by getting a bunch of generic ones and it turned into such a total mess. Right in the middle of the ceremony his camera just froze up with a weird error and he had to restart the whole thing like three times! He was so stressed out and it was honestly painful to watch him fumbling with his bag while the bride was coming down the aisle. It was pure chaos! Definitely makes you realize how much we depend on these things when the pressure is on. Chicago is gonna be amazing for a wedding tho, so much cool architecture for backdrops!

Honestly, I'm pretty satisfied with these two options. They handle the R6 power draw without cutting your burst rates.
