so i just got this canon r5 for a big trip to iceland in two weeks but i realized i need a tripod and i have zero clue what im doing lol. sorry if this is a stupid question but do i need a special one for this camera?? it seems kind of heavy to me.

i was looking at some $50 ones on amazon but then i read somewhere that a cheap tripod will just fall over and break my gear which sounds terrifying. i need something that fits in a carry-on bag because i dont want to check luggage. my logic was just get the smallest one but now im worried about the wind or something. budget is like 300 bucks max. are there specific brands that arent super confusing to set up...

Honestly those 50 buck tripods are a recipe for disaster in Iceland. The wind there is absolutely no joke... like it literally blows doors off cars sometimes. If you put an expensive R5 on a flimsy stand, it will definitely tip over and that is the last thing you want on a dream trip. Since youre on a budget but need something sturdy, i would suggest looking at carbon fiber because its lighter for carry-on but absorbs vibrations way better than cheap aluminum. I have used a few brands that wont break the bank but still feel professional. Here are a couple you might want to consider:

Jumping in because im really satisfied with how my setup handles the Canon EOS R5. Definitely gotta avoid:

  • 5-section legs (bottom ones get way too skinny)
  • Plastic locks that can snap in the cold
  • Tall center columns that catch wind Check out The Digital Picture for deep reviews. Honestly ngl, you gotta prioritize stability over size for those Iceland gusts... good luck with the trip!
