Price drop for Canon EOS R50?

Hey everyone,

I've been eyeing the Canon EOS R50 for a while now as my first 'real' camera, moving up from just using my phone. I've been doing a lot more travel lately and the phone just isn't cutting it for capturing those memories, especially in lower light. I've been particularly drawn to the R50's compact size and the positive reviews about its ease of use, since I'm still pretty much a beginner.

I noticed the forum title mentioned a possible price drop for the R50, and I'm really hoping that's true! I've been saving up, but it's still a bit of a stretch for my budget. I'm mostly interested in photography, but I'd also like to dabble in some video for vlogs and social media.

I saw a deal a couple of weeks ago on Amazon for the R50 kit with the 18-45mm lens that seemed pretty good, but I hesitated and now it's gone. I'm wondering if maybe that was a sign of upcoming broader price drops?

Specifically, I'm curious if anyone has heard any rumors or seen any actual price decreases recently? Also, should I be holding out for potential Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, or is the R50 unlikely to see significant discounts then? And finally, if a price drop does happen, roughly how much of a decrease are we talking about – just a small percentage, or a more substantial cut?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Honestly, I've been around the block with Canon gear and I've learned that safety is way more important than saving a few bucks. If you're looking for a deal on the Canon EOS R50, you gotta be careful about where your buying from. A few things to consider for a reliable purchase: - Stick to "Authorized Dealers" like B&H or Adorama. They often have "Instant Rebates" that are official Canon price cuts. It's way safer than those super cheap "Grey Market" listings you find on some sites that dont have a valid warranty. If the sensor dies in a month, your basically stuck with a paperweight.
- Look into the Canon EOS R50 Content Creator Kit. It comes with a tripod grip and a mic. Sometimes the bundle gets a bigger official rebate than the standard kit with the Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM, which makes it a realy good value for vlogging.
- Check for Canon’s Education Store if you have a .edu email. Its definately one of the most reliable ways to get a fixed discount without waiting for a holiday. I think its usually around 10% off, but I'm not 100% sure if the R50 is currently on the list. Basically, dont sweat a $50 difference too much. Getting a legit unit with a warranty is worth the peace of mind!

Hey there!

I totally get the feeling of wanting to upgrade from a phone – I've been there! I actually went through a similar dilemma a while back, eyeing the R50's older sibling, the R10. While I can't speak directly about R50 price drops, my experience with the R10 might give you some insight.

So, I was waiting for a significant price drop on the R10 and honestly, I was a bit disappointed. Black Friday came and went, and the discounts were...meh. Just small percentage reductions, nothing earth-shattering. What *did* happen was some pretty sweet bundle deals. Like, camera + extra lens + accessories for a price that was better than buying the camera body alone at 'full' discount. I would suggest keeping an eye out for those kinds of deals closer to the holidays, rather than expecting a huge price SLASH on the camera body itself.

Also, be careful about those 'too good to be true' Amazon deals from smaller sellers. Make sure they are legit and not grey market imports (warranty issues!). I almost got burned once by a seller with a ridiculously low price, but luckily, I did some digging and realized something was fishy.

Honestly, if you see a decent deal now (like that one you missed), and you're ready to pull the trigger, it might be worth it. Waiting is a gamble, and you might miss out on capturing some awesome memories in the meantime. Canon also runs refurbished sales from time to time on their website. You might want to consider checking there as well.

FWIW, I ended up getting the R10 in a bundle with the kit lens and a 55-210mm lens. Haven't regretted it for a second! Good luck with your R50 hunt! Hope this helps!

Hey! Honestly, I wouldn't bank *too* much on massive price drops. Camera gear doesn't always follow the same deep discount patterns as, say, TVs. That said, keep an eye on Canon's refurbished section – you can sometimes snag great deals there. Also, consider looking at used options from reputable sellers (like KEH or MPB). You can save a decent chunk of change and still get a camera in excellent condition. Good luck!
