I recently switched to a Canon R6 and need a compact tripod for hiking. Since some RF lenses can be front-heavy, I’m looking for something sturdy yet lightweight, ideally under 3 lbs. I’ve been eyeing Peak Design and Benro options. What’s your go-to travel setup that balances stability and portability for the R-system?

Re: "Saving this thread" - yeah, definitely a topic worth watching because most travel tripods are honestly a letdown. I've spent way too much money trying to find one that actually works for a front-heavy R6. I tried some of those popular compact options and was pretty disappointed. The leg flex on those thinner carbon sections is just brutal when you've got a heavier RF lens attached. Ngl, it felt like my gear was constantly at risk of a micro-blur or just tipping over in a light breeze. Most of these newer brands focus way too much on being tiny for a backpack and forget that a tripod is supposed to be steady. If you want my advice, just go with any carbon fiber legs from Gitzo. You really can't go wrong with them if you care about actual build quality. Or just grab whatever travel kit Really Right Stuff is selling right now. They're the only ones that seem to handle the weight of mirrorless systems without everything feeling flimsy. Stop looking at the budget brands if you're serious about your R6.
