I literally just bought this Canon EOS R50 yesterday because I am going on my dream trip to Tokyo in like 10 days and I realized my iPhone probably wont cut it for the night shots. I have zero idea what I am doing and the box was way smaller than I expected so I feel like I am missing half the stuff I need to actually use it. Like I saw people talking about SD cards but there are so many types and numbers on them and I dont want to buy the wrong one and have it not work when I am at a temple or something.
So I was thinking maybe I need an extra battery because what if it dies while I am walking around all day? But then someone said I can charge it with a power bank but I dont know if any USB-C cable works or if Ill fry the camera if I use the wrong plug. My budget is pretty tight now after spending so much on the camera kit so I can probably only spend another $150 max on extras for now. Do I need a special bag or can I just throw it in my backpack? I am worried about the lens getting scratched too. Should I buy one of those glass circles for the front? Sorry if these are really basic questions I just feel totally overwhelmed and the flight is coming up so fast. What are the absolute bare minimum things I need to pack so I dont regret it once I get there?
I was so stressed before my Osaka trip but honestly the R50 is a beast if you set it up right. Are you mostly doing video or just snaps? I am really happy with my SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I V30 because that V30 rating is technical speak for the write speed. It hasnt failed me yet. For the lens, I just use a Hoya 49mm UX II UV Filter instead of a fancy bag.
To add to the point above: unfortunately, SanDisk hasn't been as good as expected lately and I've had cards fail, so I'd look at others. Try these:
tokyo is gonna be amazing! honestly, the r50 is tiny so i get why it feels like stuff is missing. you really gotta be careful about the battery tho... it drains fast. the bare minimum is definitely power and storage. to narrow it down:
