Are there any affordable EF to RF adapters for my Canon EOS RP?

I just picked up a used Canon RP because I thought it was a steal but man I didnt realize how much the native lenses cost. Its actually kind of ridiculous. I have a bag full of old EF lenses from my 80D days like the nifty fifty and a decent 24-105 that I really want to keep using but the official Canon adapter is like 100 bucks or more if you can even find it in stock anywhere near me. I'm trying to stay under 50 or 60 bucks because I already blew most of my budget on the body itself and I've got a wedding to shoot for my cousin in Chicago next weekend so I need to figure this out fast.

I've been looking at the Viltrox one because I heard it works okay but then I saw a Meike adapter on Amazon that is even cheaper and has decent reviews but people say it might wiggle a bit? I dont want my lens falling off in the middle of a ceremony lol. Then there is the Commlite one too but I'm just so confused by all these third party brands and if they actually maintain the autofocus speed because that is the most important part for me. Is the official Canon one really worth double the price or should I just risk it with the Viltrox or Meike?

I've used both and the Viltrox EF-EOS R Lens Mount Adapter is your best bet for a wedding. Be careful with the super cheap ones because that wiggle is real and can disconnect your lens mid-shot.

  • Viltrox: solid metal build, fast AF
  • Meike: cheaper but feels risky I would suggest Viltrox to avoid issues during the ceremony. The Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is just too expensive.

Look, I've used a bunch of these over the years and honestly... most of them are just hollow tubes with pins. You dont need to drop a hundred bucks if you're careful. Since you're on a tight deadline for that Chicago wedding, check out these two options that usually fly under the radar:

  • JJC EF-EOS R Lens Mount Adapter with Detachable Tripod Foot
  • This one is surprisingly robust. The build quality feels way more expensive than it actually is, and the tripod foot is a nice bonus if you ever grab a heavier zoom lens later.
  • K&F Concept EF-EOS R Auto Focus Lens Mount Adapter
  • These guys are usually the kings of budget gear that actually works. I havent had issues with their electronic contacts failing mid-shoot or anything crazy like that. Just a heads up, even with the best third-party ones, check the mounting plate screws when it arrives. Sometimes they need a tiny turn to stay tight. Since you're shooting a wedding, maybe bring a tiny bit of gaff tape just in case? Better safe than sorry. AF speed is basically identical to the native one since it's just passing data through.

Love the RP! Quick question tho, what EF glass are you bringing?
