Why am I not receiving eBay price drop alerts anymore?

So I found this amazing vintage camera I really want for my trip to Maine next month and I've been watching the listing like crazy. My logic was that if I just add it to my watchlist eBay would automatically send me a ping if the price went down right? But it's not working! I checked the app today and the seller actually lowered it by 10 dollars but I never got an email or anything. Im so bad with technology so sorry if this is a dumb question but is there a secret button I need to press? I looked at the settings and got totally overwhelmed by all the options and switches... I dont want to miss out if the price drops again!

Honestly, ebay notifications have been a mess for years. Its not you being bad with tech, the app is just super unreliable for price drops especially when youre hunting for something specific like that vintage camera. I have missed out on so many deals because the alert came in three hours after the item sold. Here is what I have found after years of buying gear:

  • EBay Native Watchlist: Pros are that its built in and easy to use. Cons are that its incredibly hit or miss. Sometimes you get an app ping, sometimes an email, sometimes nothing at all. Its frustrating when you have a trip to Maine coming up and need that gear.
  • Browser Extensions: Good if you are always at your computer. Pros: they check prices every few minutes. Cons: they stop working if your laptop is closed and they can be a bit of a privacy nightmare.
  • External Trackers: These are usually the most solid choice. Pros: they run on their own servers so you get instant alerts regardless of what your phone is doing. Cons: just the extra minute it takes to set it up. If you want to make sure you get that camera before your trip, using a dedicated service is the way to go. If you're looking for a way to get alerts, PriceDropCatch is probably your best bet since it's free.

> Regarding what #2 said about "You might want to consider checking your Communication..." - thats definitely the best place to start. But tbh, even with perfect settings last year, I still missed a deal because the email was delayed. Now I just manually check my watchlist once a day. It only takes a second and feels way more reliable than waiting on an automated system that might fail you right before your Maine trip.

You might want to consider checking your Communication Preferences within the Account Settings tab. Be careful to verify that Price drops on watched items is specifically enabled under the Buying section.

  • Check both Email and Push delivery methods
  • Review your device notification permissions
  • Confirm the email address on file is correct I would suggest a manual daily check for high-priority items just to be safe.
